The SRWC in partnership with the MHCC Fisheries Club had a wonderful, sunny, successful Earth Day trash pick up on April 20th at Mt. Hood Community College. Here’s a quick review:
We had 33 people come out to help pick up trash on campus with a focus on waterways. Volunteers included MHCC students, the Multnomah Youth Cooperative students from Reynold’s Learning Academy, City of Gresham Americorps members, Sandy River Watershed Council staff, and local residents.
A group strapped on waders and wadded through Beaver creek to clean up trash in native salmon habitat. They even removed a whole tire. A land based group focused their efforts on picking up trash around Kelly Creek pond, and even had time to spread some mulch on young plants that were planted a month ago to combat the invasive blackberry that was removed. In total we picked up approximately 200 lbs of trash, which was sorted for recycling.
Thanks to all of our volunteers that came out and those who supported the event including: SOLVE Oregon, Voodoo Doughnuts, Nossa Familia Coffee Roasters, Mt Hood Community College, MHCC Fisheries Club, City of Gresham, and Americorps. #solvethistogether
