CANCELLED: Celebrate Earth Day in Beaver Creek Canyon
April 25 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
— This event has been cancelled due to COVID-19 safety precautions. —
On a spring day in 1970, 20 million Americans joined together for peaceful demonstrations in favor of environmental reform. Not only did this mark the first Earth Day, it also continued the growth of the environmental movement, and even helped spawn the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.
On Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., the City will host its own 50th Anniversary Earth Day event at Beaver Creek Canyon / Weedin Park, located at 1323 SE Beavercreek Lane. Our project will include removing invasive plants, clearing trails, and filling decorative Gabion baskets with rocks.
We’ll have plenty of fuel to get you started, with Safeway and Black Rock Coffee providing coffee and water, breakfast bars and pastries. At 1 p.m, volunteers will enjoy a free sit-down lunch of pizza, with a large sheet cake to commemorate this special Earth Day anniversary.
About our COVID-19 response:
Here at the Sandy River Watershed Council, we are taking recommendations from federal, state, county, and city officials very seriously. We continue to have outdoor events planned in April and May. Many of our events are led by our partner organizations, and we are in close contact with them about their plans. Because the COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly, we will send out an update in early April and update our Instagram and Facebook pages, as well as our events calendar, with any changes or cancellations. Please contact us if you have any questions.
